PPG colours set the trend at Summernats 28
Any New Year’s hangovers were swiftly set aside as the Australian capital resonated to the roar of high octane horsepower being unleashed to mark the arrival of the annual Summernats car festival (1st – 4th January 2015). With almost 2000 vehicles on display, even mid-30ºCs temperatures didn’t deter the crowds with over 100,000 street machine fans visiting the 70 hectare Exhibition Park in Canberra. For the 28th running of the iconic event, PPG was once again a proud supporter, as well as operating one of the most popular trade stands on site. PPG’s Tony Naughton (NSW Business Development Manager) has made the annual pilgrimage to Summernats for many years, both as an enthusiast and as a member of the PPG Team, and he says it never fails to redline the excitement level.
“I reckon this was the best Summernats I’ve been to, especially in terms of the PPG stand. The team put a lot of effort into the displays so the stand was alive with examples of colour from PPG’s VIBRANCE COLLECTION® custom paint finishes. This year it included special finishes from the Charley Hutton Ridler Color Collection and some really bright colours which were formulated by the local PPG Team to show the versatility of the PPG products.”
Eye-catching vehicle displays also formed a key part of the stand by giving visitors a clear vision of the Vibrance Collection® custom colours in action. More than ever, Tony sees the Summernats as the epicentre of custom colours.
“For me, the highlight of the event was the unveiling of three PPG painted cars. There was Mark Hayes’ CRYSTALLANCE® blue LC Torana Pro-Nitrous drag car, a VK Commodore burnout car painted by PPG Vibrance Network member, Exclusive Customs, in a red CRYSTALLANCE® colour, called ‘Obsession’ and a ’64 C10 Chevrolet Pickup built by Fat57 Customs. All of them had a real ‘wow factor’.”
According to Tony, there was never a dull moment as streams of people packed the PPG stand over the four days.
“We had all sorts of people dropping in – everything from ‘dreamers’ to serious car builders looking for the ideal colour for their next ‘big thing’. Some people we might see over several years as they visit the PPG Summernats stands to keep up with the latest trends in custom pigments and colours. That way, when their project is ready for its paintjob, they know exactly which PPG finish they’re going to use to ensure their custom vehicle really stands out from the crowd – even at the Summernats!”
